Explore Your Vision…
Ocular Aid is a visual impairment kit that can be ordered online and tested in the comfort of your own home. The goal of the branding and packaging design is to be colorful and inviting, the opposite of sterile corporate and hospital design
The logo and design elements were created in Adobe Illustrator and the mock-ups were created in Adobe Photoshop.
PROJECT SUMMARY
The aim with Ocular Aid is to provide an accessible, affordable, and accurate solution for individuals suspecting color blindness or visual impairment. The goal is to empower users to self-assess at home, enabling them to make informed decisions about seeking professional diagnosis. This test kit not only serves those hesitant about incurring medical expenses but also caters to the uninsured or under-insured. By using the kit, individuals can gauge the need for further evaluation and, if necessary, approach a medical professional armed with specific questions about their vision.
DESIGN CHALLENGE
My main challenges were finding ways to test the user's eyes in a safe manner that is both accurate and affordable. Most testing equipment is expensive and including them would defeat the whole purpose of the kit which meant I had to carefully choose which specific visual impairments my kit would test for. This narrowed down the list greatly but it also helped me focus on creating a kit that included essential items that are needed to test for the most common visual impairments rather than having a large amount of useless items that will end up in the trash.
DESIGN SOLUTION
Ocular Aid is a solution for those who suspect they have a visual impairment but cannot afford an appointment with a doctor. Ocular Aid strives to offer an accessible, affordable, and accurate solution for self-assessment of color blindness or visual impairment. Empowering users to make informed decisions about seeking professional diagnosis, the kit is ideal for those concerned about medical expenses or lacking insurance coverage. It enables individuals to gauge the need for further evaluation, allowing them to approach medical professionals with specific questions about their vision.
